Are They Too Liberal or Aren't They?

Forget terrorists, it's become increasingly obvious that Bill O'Reilly is terrified of movie actors. Apparently O'Reilly isn't hip to the fact that Hollywood does not create the laws which we are obligated to live by. Actors are civilians, non-elected citizens, who are free to speak their minds like any other citizen of the United States.

Prior to the Academy Awards, that aired on Sunday, March 5th, Bill O'Reilly was predicting that the stars (read George Clooney) would use the venue as a platform to air their political opinions. He droned on, ad nauseum about the 'out of touch looney left' in Hollywood. Then, the Oscars came and went without much political hullabaloo, save for Clooney's elequent acceptance speech...to which O'Reilly took credit for the lack of 'in your face' grandstanding. He also made the following ominous claim (I wish I had the official transcript from the show):

that today's media environment makes it harder for stars to make outrageous statements. "The world has changed, with cable news watching every move they make. Whatever you say politically, 50% of the people aren't going to like. And for movie stars who want people to spend money to see them, there's no percentage in it."

Cable news is watching every move an actor makes? Why, in God's name would they be doing that? When did that become a journalists duty? I can understand it if you're a reporter for the entertainment section of a particular news outlet, but The O'Reilly Factor is not such a show...even though, I admit, that it can be infuriatingly entertaining at times.

So which is it Bill? Is liberal Hollywood making outrageous statements or do they 'tone it down' depending on the venue? They're either too liberal or they aren't Bill. Any more contradictions like that and people might stop taking you seriously. (wink). The next time you want to go after individuals who make outrageous statments, you may want to remember that any statement made pales in comparison to the vile and putrid rants of Ann Coulter.
