Bitter Much?
I loved the movie Brokeback Mountain. LOVED it! It is one of the most heart-wrenching love stories I've ever seen. I loved the book. I loved that everything that was in the book was in the movie. Every actor in the movie gave a performance of a lifetime. The movie itself was beautiful to look at. I went through the whole gamut of emotions while watching this masterpiece unfold before me on the big screen. I laughed, I cried, I physically ached for them for what they all had to endure. It was a great flick.
It did not win best picture at the Oscar's, and Annie Proulx, the author of Brokeback Mountain, is fit to be tied! In a letter she fired off to The Guardian, she ranted and raved about how the movie was robbed by Crash.
Annie. Oh Annie, Annie, Annie...bad form Annie. Yes, it lost, but suck it up honey! When you describe the atmosphere and the audience at the Kodak Theater, you are insulting the very people who brought your story to life! The actors, cinematographer, the director, writers, the producer's, et all. Most of whom, were in the audience that night. You should be thrilled that your story inspired Ang Lee to make it, and that it got the recognition it deserved! It was a wonderful movie and you should be very proud!
Every movie nominated was "bad stuff" except for yours Annie? Wrongo sister! This was the first year in a long time that there wasn't some fluff up there. I'm really disappointed in your reaction and that you had to besmirch the merits of Brokeback Mountain because of your wounded pride. Great book, great movie, get over yourself.

"If you are looking for smart judging based on merit, skip the Academy Awards next year and pay attention to the Independent Spirit choices," Proulx advises.
She even lashes out at Lionsgate, the distribution company behind "Crash."
"Rumour has it that Lionsgate inundated the academy voters with DVD copies of Trash - excuse me - Crash a few weeks before the ballot deadline," Proulx writes.
She decries the "atmosphere of insufferable self-importance" inside the Kodak Theatre, the Oscars site, and describes the audience as a "somewhat dim LA crowd." The show, she writes, was "reminiscent of a small-town talent-show night."
"Clapping wildly for bad stuff enhances this," Proulx writes.
