FNC Pre-Oscar Smack Down

With Ken Lay of Enron on trial, the Dubai ports deal, and Bush's poll numbers at an all time low, it's no wonder that Fox News' focus this morning was on the Academy Awards and liberal Hollywood. Tony Snow, of Fox News, is predicting disappointing numbers in total viewers for tomorrow evening and blames it on the Academy for not including any blockbuster movies in it's nomination line up. He's also anticipating first time Oscar host, Jon Stewart, to not draw enough of a crowd, claiming that anyone who doesn't watch Comedy Central won't know who Stewart is. Take a walk outside of your comfort zone Tony...baby steps.

Mr. Snow, a 'blockbuster' movie does not equal a great movie, or even a good movie. A blockbuster movie can be, and often is, crap. Fluff. Lots of lights, bells, and whistles, but not much substance. Do you really think that Big Mama's House II is a better movie than Good Night and Good Luck just because it was a higher grossing film? C'mon! This year Hollywood has produced a number of films so full of substance you almost need a Ph.D. in order to absorb the intellectual plots that were so marvelously written. Yes, there are some nominees for best picture that are controversial to our times, but you forget Mr. Snow that the entire world and fifty percent of the U.S. do not hold your rose colored view of our current administration and perceived positive reputation as a country. The Oscars are televised worldwide. Three of the nominated films have just recently opened internationally. Brokeback Mountain is currently the number one movie in Hong Kong. Munich is number one in Greece and Syriana is number two in France and Italy.

I predict the 2006 Academy Awards will be a huge success. Brokeback Mountain will win Best Picture and Directing, Heath Ledger will win best actor (I know the favorite is Phillip Hoffman), and George Clooney will bring home two awards, one for Best Supporting Actor in Syriana, and the other for Best Original Screenplay for Good Night and Good Luck.

Good luck to all of you, and Tony Snow...find some culture and couth.

I love Brokeback Mountain.

And I'm glad good ol' George won. He deserved it :)

Kudos to George, he's a peach!

I loved Brokeback Mountian too! I was a little off on my predictions. I thought for sure BBM would win best picture, but judging by the audible 'gasp' in the audience when "Crash" was announced, I'd guess I wasn't the only one who was off.

Totally! I think even Jack Nicholson was surprised.

You need to rent "Crash"! But you'll see that Brokeback still should have won..
