Nice blog, as is your photo. As to my comment at HuffPo concerning the Twilight Zone, no irony there. Rod Serling was a rarity among vapid Hollywood producer/director/writers (he did it all) that combined his social conscience with high art and entertainment. Almost every episode is a morality play that dealt with issues such as racism, sexism, greed, war and other issues long before it was hip or safe to do so. For this, he was sidelined by the establishment. Try watching a few and tell me I'm wrong. You just don't see this kind of thing on TV anymore, the Hollywood suits won't have it. Believe me, I worked in Hollywood for the industry and I know these people. I'll admit I might be wrong about Deadwood as I only watched one episode. Sorry that the language seemed gratuitous to me and obscured whatever greater content that the show may have been trying to convey. I was on a rampage last night due to other issues and use HuffPo as an outlet. Not everything I say there is always well considered and is sometimes an effort to spark debate. It would have been nice if someone had taken the time to justify Deadwood's racist and harsh language and why they consider it integral to the show. It disturbed me and I consider it a worthy topic of debate.
The irony I was alluding too was that the 60's were harldy socially conscious times (the reality not the tv shows).
As for Deadwood, it depicts the reality of that time. It doesn't sugar coat it. As for me, I like to see how far we've come as a society since those dreadful times. I don't think that the show glorifies racism in any way, in fact, I think it shines a spotlight on the horrendousness (sp?) of it.
I worked in Hollywood too...and as for your comment that they just don't weave social consience with high art anymore is false. "Crash" was just one of those movies, and won best picture.
Thanks for the compliments on my site...I hope you return! Welcome!
I agree about the movies, several of late have managed to integrate socially conscious themes into their plots. "V for Victory" and the new "X-Men" film for example, as well as many that are more overt. "Good Night, and Good Luck" was excellent. Too bad we don't have newspeople like that any more. I haven't seen "Crash" so I'll pass on judgment. However, I was talking about TV, arguably a more important wide reaching medium. What you say about "Deadwood" makes some sense to me and judging by the reaction from other HuffPo readers you are probably right. I won't be watching it however because I don't subscribe to full cable and watch little that is not hard news. As to the 60s, I think we could use some of that activism today that brought people out into the streets to oppose the war. I also wouldn't mind seeing a group like the Weathermen who could turn the tables on government spying like they did back then. Remember COINTELPRO? It's the reason we have FICA. I can do without the bombings though. Thanks for your response.
That was a compliment T.F. Remember, it came from me so in my "messed up world" thats a compliment. Be happy, I didnt think or say you looked like Ann Coulter did I! Determined, strong willed and out-spoken in their beliefs and both have long blond hair. Aaaa, wait a minute. Prove your NOT Ann Coulter.....I see a lot of similarities......
Oh no you di'nt! I was going to go into great detail about the differences between Ms. Coulter and myself (for instance, I HAVE a vagina, no adam's apple, and muscle tissue...LOL!) but since you're just "j/k", I'll just wish you a happy weekend as well.

"Good Night and Good Luck" was superb. I even bought the DVD which I never do.
Thanks for your input.

Great photo!!! Not as good as seeing you in RL, though. The photo can't talk, laugh and smile. :-)

Oh he just means that it looks like you could kick someone's ass if it came down to it. Not everyone is used to seeing fighting dems in action :)
