Military Homophobia Strikes Again
The U.S. Army discharged Sergent Bleu Copas, an Arabic specialist (I think we need those right now, don't you?) because he's gay. We should really be ashamed of this policy. Here we have Americans who want to serve their country, and as is the case with Mr. Copas, who were inspired post September 11th, and he's being discharged because...he's incompetent? A danger? A threat? Revealing military secrets? No, no, no, and no. Because he prefers other males in his personal relationships. Apparently the military's top priority is investigating gay people serving in our military over obtaining necessary intelligence in fighting the war on terror.

Let me start off by saying that I don't believe the military should discriminate against anyone. Especially one who wants to serve and possibly die for his or her country. I think it comes down to trust and morality. There are many people in the military who don't trust or understand gay people. Soldiers need to know that when the crap hits the fan, their comrades are able to back them up. I'm not saying that gay people aren't capable of this, I know they are but I think many soldiers feel that they can't. That last thing a commander or other soldiers need in a war are trust issues and low morality. Sometimes it's hard to understand and many people can't but in war and for the better outcome of the other people, some people need to step aside. Take one for the team, so to speak. Not unlike when a soldier jumps on a grenade, sacrificing himself to save the people around him. I understand this is a horrible thing to say, and many people can't see the correlation. I don't expect many of you to. Soldiers need to be able to trust each other with their lives. If there are any trust issues people will pay the price in death. Again, I don't share this belief. There are people that are cut out to fight in a war and people that can't. It has nothing to do with who your sleeping with. I do know from experience that it doesn't take much for things to fall apart when your under the stress of war. I think it is the military's way of trying to protect the majority of it's soldiers. Even at the cost of another person. It's not fair or even legal in regular society but the military is a whole different ballgame.
Wow, and he was involved in community theater too??? No wonder they thought he was a danger. *eye roll*
